Kacey Musgraves' "Neon Moon" is a Shot of Melancholia

Kacey Musgraves has always had the ability to inject a completely different take on emotions into her voice no matter what song she sings. She has made waves when she released her iconic Golden Hour album, fully cementing her presence in the country music industry.

Her songs have always spoken to her listeners in levels. The way her dreamy voice is backed by distinct tracks that are somehow both deep-rooted in country, synth, and dream pop at the same time. Truly, it’s something that country hasn’t seen before – or is very open to.

But this, together with her ability to inject passion and emotion into her singing is the reason why her version of ‘”Neon Moon'” speaks in a whole new level than the original.

Kacey Musgraves’ Version

During the legs of her Oh, What a World: Tour, she has already been doing her rendition of this Brooks & Dunn classic. And even then, the sweet melancholia of having a love lost could easily be felt with each note that she sings.

Now, don’t get it twisted. The original Brooks & Dunn will always remain a classic. It would be an anthem for all the patrons at the back of the bar who had somehow lost the love of their lives.

But then, listening to Musgraves’ version of “Neon Moon” is like taking a cold shot of whiskey – a cool sensation at the beginning yet incredibly warm and scorching as the seconds pass. Her version makes you remember the good old days, and crave for the days that have yet to come. Truly, her artistry sets her apart from the contemporary world, and her version of “Neon Moon” does that perfectly.

Brooks & Dunn’s Reboot

The album features great collaborations with other country artists such as Kacey Musgraves, Thomas Rhett, Cody Johnson, Kane Brown, Lanco, Ashley McBryde, Luke Combs, Brothers Osborn, Tyler Booth, John Pardi, and Brett Young.

Ronnie Dunn was very enthusiastic about the project in a statement that he released.

“This whole experience has been humbling to say the least. What a cool rush to hear somebody do one of your tunes in a unique way, and it still holds up. That’s the greatest compliment you can get as an artist. People used to ask us all the time about the legacy we wanted to leave, and it’s honestly just that – you hope the music stands up over time. This is the first opportunity we’ve had to run it up a new flagpole…and it really flies.”
