Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have had quite the turnaround since their disastrous 1-8 start to this WNBA season. Now they are contending to move up from the 7th position in the standings on the back of their impressive play.
Beating championship contenders along the way and proving people wrong. One of the staples of this turnaround is attributed to the overall great chemistry between the players. That chemistry was on display when the trio of Clark, Lexi Hull and Kelsey Mitchell were speaking with reporters after the game. Hull was asked about her defense against the Connecticut Sun.
At this point, Hull noticed that Clark had already broken out into a bout of laughter. She too was in splits when she understood that her rookie teammate could not control herself and had Mitchell laughing along.
The reason that I'm out there is to try and make an impact defensively. I know I was undersized going against DB (DeWanna Bonner). And so, I tried to just be as active as I could, get my hands on as many balls as I could. And....Lexi Hull said
That was due to the dual meaning of the last few words Lexi Hull said. She might have said it innocently while trying to suggest that she was going for the steals. But Clark instantly looking towards Kelsey Mitchell shows that she referred to the dual meaning of it.
This shows their chemistry, as it is clear that they have developed into a unit that can pull each other’s leg at any time and not worry about anyone feeling bad – a chemistry that has been a major part of their ascension to be one of the hottest teams in the WNBA since the Olympic break.
Caitlin Clark and Fever face crucial matchup against Angel Reese and Sky
One of the main components of that hot streak is the all-round play from all starters and role players. Tonight, they will go up against rivals Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. They have not played well off late. Even then it cannot be assumed that the Indiana Fever will run away with a victory. The Sky are not short on grit.
The likes of Angel Reese and her teammates wear grit and determination on their sleeves. So, Caitlin Clark and her teammates will have to continue their own form and take the win. This matchup is crucial for the Fever as they look to cement their place in the playoff ladder. A win will also bump Clark up in the WNBA Rookie of the Year race.
At the same time, a loss will weigh heavily against the Sky. With other teams playing better, there is a risk of them losing out on a playoff spot if they lose. The rest of the games on their schedule are tough, which makes this game a must-win.
